Call for Papers, Vol. VI, Issue 1/2026, "WORDS"

For the first 2026 issue of our journal, we would like to devote our attention to “WORDS”. It is not fortuitous that Wilhelm von Humboldt and Johann Gottfried Herder named man homo loquens. Indeed, the capacity to speak, to build a language and to verbally communicate is essential and specific to the human species. Aristotle wrote that man alone among the animals is furnished with the faculty of language, and this is the foundation of moral reasoning, law and community. We are zoon politikon because we can speak.

P’Arts’Hum invites scholars and academics to reflect on WORDS for all areas of Arts & Humanities. We look forward to original contributions that would bring more provocative insights for Vol. VI, issue 1/2026 of our academic journal Papers in Arts and Humanities. In the larger context of WORDS, the first issue in 2026 will also be dedicated to topics of minority languages, language attitudes, language use, multilingualism, and other issues connected to the goals of the UniNet network launched by the Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity.

Possible topics include but are not limited to:

  • Logos and divinity
  • Thoughts and words
  • Language and learning
  • The grammatical, lexical, semantic, pragmatic aspects of language
  • How to do things with words? Speech acts theory
  • Words in the age of A.I., algorithms and social media
  • Truth, lies and manipulation
  • Language communities
  • Bi- and plurilingualism
  • Language as means of communication
  • Minority language use and transmission
